For October the weather was still pleasantly cool. The breeze didn't go right through Sameli's clothes and straight to his bones. Much better than the horrid school in the arctic. Hogwarts had the perfect location. There were plenty of open land, a lake, and best of all a forest.

The word forbidden put before it didn't dissuade the Finn from exploring it. Not only did it cover a lot of land, but the trees were fricken tall with their branches blocking out the sunlight. Dark, light, Sameli wasn't picky about the outdoors... As long as there's not snow.

Now he was standing on the outskirts of the woods, waiting for kids to come trickling down to meet up with him. Having mentioned a camping trip a student asked to come along, Sure why not, right? Him and a kid just a little younger than him wouldn't hurt. But then the word started spreading, and not just through Durmstrang. He heard a couple of Hogwarts kids and fancy Beaux students bringing it up.

It quickly went from a night of piece and quiet to a straight up field trip. He wasn't going to kick kids out just because he felt over crowded. As long as he doesn't have to share a tent then he's fine.

With a sigh he shifted his weight from one leg to the other. He agreed the kids should meet up with him after dinner, but damn how long does it take for kids to eat? He felt like he'd been loiter for an hour at least. But perhaps he was just being impatient to get into the woods. Sameli couldn't just ditch them and let them find him themselves. As the air cooled further into the night a blanket of fog hid the forest floor.

Looking up, he nodded to some kids he saw wandering down his way. "Hey, ready to get going?" He asked, jabbing a thumb to the forest. If they weren't ready then tough luck, Sameli was already eager enough to head out.

Don’t worry we shall have wonderful dreams.

Raeya had heard the gossip about the Forbidden Forest camping trip. Really, her peers weren't all that sneaky. She was sure that it helped that she was rather quiet and sometimes practically invisible in a corner with a book. But really, one would think that you'd look around before talking about plans to break school rules. Shoving her hands into the pouch pocket of her hoodie she made her way from the grounds to the edge of the forest with her hood up and on high alert. She hardly took a step without looking around first, though that wasn't really necessary. Rae was used to being unheard and unseen. She was just an invisible type of person sometimes.

There was an obvious reason for her anxiousness though, and it wasn't the beasts in the forest. No, Raeya was a Prefect and though she didn't actually have interest in the camping trip, she would tag along to watch over the others. It was her duty. She supposed that it didn't carry the same thrill for her because it didn't scare her, not in the slightest. She had faced a much scarier monster over the summer. Either way, she should technically tell a Professor but here she was. Raeya didn't like busting people, EJ had shown her that not all rulebreaking was morally wrong.

Reaching the outskirts of the forest, Raeya's lips formed a small smirk. Being a prefect in one school meant you had to on a daily basis also aid and sometimes punish students from other schools too. Raeya had taken it upon herself a while ago to remember each student she interacted with. After a year, that turned out to be nearly everyone that passed through the Hogwarts halls. "Sameli." She greeted with a smile and a nod. "So, you're the ringleader." Okay, so she wasn't here to bust anyone, but there was no reason she couldn't mess with them a little first.

EJ was just constantly on edge.

It was his seventh and final year at Hogwarts. He was back on the Quidditch team and not a single person on the team truly remembered his meltdown during his third year. Nobody was messing with him. He had Raeya. Life was good, right?

Then why the hell was he so damn jumpy all the time.

It was like he was springloaded ninety percent of the time with a hundred percent chance of going off on someone at any given moment. Really, that wasn’t any different than normal, but at least now maybe he had a reason for his shitty behavior.

At least Raeya was able to keep him calm most of the time.

He walked in stride with her, not actually knowing what it was she was doing. She was a prefect this year again, which was a slightly bigger deal now that they were both in their final years. It was probably a big deal last year too but he hadn’t really paid much attention to the world around him then. He paid much more attention now.

“The fuck is this, luv?” he asked quietly as she greeted someone who looked relatively close to their age, calling him the ringleader. “Ringleader for wot?”

((Unless you want everyone to meet up right away, I could easily have Vivian remain undetected for the first round or two, if you like. Shi's roughly a mile or more into the woods, collecting various ingredients for hir potions, so it's up to y'all.))

Night was coming on quickly, and a fog was rolling in that would be at least moderately thick by full dark. It was already pitch-black nearly a mile into the woods that bordered the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the forest seemed to suck the heat out of everything that had entered it this night. Only three in particular had come here from the outside, not a one of them students. Two were Argyle and his younger brother Carlisle, a pair of Scottish wizards with a knack for dark magic and a love for using it. The third, however, was far less adept with a wand than shi was with potions. Hir draughts were particularly potent, and hir boyfriend had devised a means by which to use them in an enclosed environment to trap and put to sleep anything that shi needed to capture. Usually, shi got hir ingredients from shops and hir garden, but shi needed some ingredients at the moment that were becoming increasingly hard to come by (and increasingly expensive when they were available).

Technically, Vivian Cipriani didn’t have a license to handle dangerous creatures. Shi had put in an application months ago with the British Ministry of Magic, but they always moved at a glacial pace, and Vivian couldn’t wait. Fortunately, there was a kind of creature in this forest (so shi’d heard) that would be perfect for what shi needed. Blast-ended skrewts had apparently been breeding quite a bit of late, and according to a fellow OOS member who happened to be an expert on creatures that could bite, sting, burn, slice, dice, mutilate, and generally make you very dead very painfully, there were at least a score of them herein. As often as they apparently bred, one of them going missing in a forest that seemed designed and populated specifically to kill foolish Hogwarts students wasn’t going to be missed much. Hell, most of the staff apparently didn’t know the full extent of what actually went on in the woods. A centaur had vouched for the trio after they had entered because the skrewts had apparently been causing some trouble near his family’s grove, and centaurs weren’t known for being expressive most of the time, so Vivian and the brothers had free reign tonight. Viv had asked Gabe to lend hir a couple of men from the OOS specifically because of the difficulty in acquiring what shi needed, and he had gladly spared them.

At the moment, a small phial of Draught of Living Death was levitating upside-down about twenty feet off the ground. The small clearing was barely that, but the skrewt was trapped and had burned up all of the ground vegetation in its surprisingly effective elusion of the trio. The chest into which Vivian was going to keep the skrewt was tipped forward so as to more easily facilitate the skrewt’s entry, but Argyle and Carlisle were having trouble getting it into the chest. Thankfully, the inside of the chest was nearly as big as the clearing in which the trio and the skrewt now stood, for the skrewt was nearly ten feet in length from one lethal end to the other. Argyle slammed into the side of the creature with a stunning charm, but all it did was knock it to the side; the skrewt’s natural body armour was making it difficult to do much more than that. But a blasting curse from behind by Carlisle managed to get it scuttling forward a bit. It tried scuttling the other way, but a dung bomb dropped by Vivian got it scooting back in an instant; Viv leapt back as well, as the vapor suddenly ignited. Another blasting curse from each of the brothers got it moving in the right direction again.

Finally, it was in place, and Argyle flicked his wand at the hovering bottle’s cork.

”Accio!”

The cork flew into his hand, dropping the potion in a spray carried by the light wind outward, completely covering the skrewt. All three were wearing something to cover their faces so that they didn’t breathe it in - a bright-yellow scarf for Vivian and a handkerchief for each of the brothers. The effect wasn’t immediate, and it was still fighting the trio as they tried their control tactics again. Finally, it was starting to stumble a bit. A dung bomb wasn’t needed this time - just another pair of blasting curses. A flurry of final stunning spells was all that was needed to get the beast inside, tripping the magically set traps that dosed it with the draught a second time. Vivian and Carlisle hurried to close the trunk and set it upright, the wizard-space inside unaffected by the trunk’s much-smaller exterior. Argyle retrieved the phial and corked it before handing it back to Vivian, who promptly pocketed it. The trio stood there for a moment, catching their breath, before Vivian spoke.

“Okay,” shi told them, “if one of you could just seal and shrink this, I can carry it myself. Gabe can help me when I get home.”

Carlisle shrunk it after Argyle locked it, and Vivian secured the miniaturized trunk inside an insulated iron box that shi kept in hir satchel.

“The other thing I’m going to need are the black flowers that grow abundantly here. I could stand to pick up some other supplies while I’m here as well, although I am worried about the wood-trolls. The centaur who gave us his blessing also told me that they’ve been roaming the woods in groups of three and four lately, almost as though they’re patrolling. The centaurs have been able to avoid them and keep the occasional unicorn from getting caught in their path, but they’re too dangerous for them to handle without a large group that may incur losses.”

Argyle nodded, but it was Carlisle who spoke.

“We can help you as long as y’need, la…uh.”

Once again, the problem of what to call Vivian had come up. Shi rolled hir eyes and told him to just call hir Vivian without looking up. Shi was checking the equipment shi’d brought with hir; shi had plenty of containers for whatever shi needed in the satchel, whose interior - like that of the trunk - was much more expansive than its exterior. Shi could easily have hidden inside it hirself, if it came to that, though shi would rather not do that.

“Also,” said Argyle, “y’should know that there’re some kids comin’ t’night. Some campin’ trip or summat.”

“Then we’ll have to be careful to avoid them,” shi replied, “or at least not to endanger them should we meet.”

Argyle nodded as Vivian retrieved the pole staked into the ground, one end bearing a couple of glow worms in a phial - an improvised source of light; while shi could have lit hir wand tip as the other two had, shi felt that shi might as well utilize some of the glow worms shi'd picked up, especially if shi needed the wand that shi now drew from hir right sleeve with hir left hand. Now ready to move on, shi led the way out of the burnt clearing on the hunt for the forest’s native black flowers and other necessities.

So far only two people were coming up to him. Just two Hogwarts kids. At least as they came closer he recognized one face. One that in the past year had scolding him for smoking in the courtyard. Which was bullshit in his mind because he didn't even light the joint when she arrived. "Raeya." He responded back with a slight smirk of his own. If she planned to give him a hard time now then she had another thing coming. He wasn't from Hogwarts. Hell, he wasn't even a student anymore.

His eyes flicked to the boy when he spoke up. He had no clue who this guy was, but he'd probably seen him in passing and just not cared. There were a lot of faces in the hallways with the three schools combined. Other than looking ready to start yelling, this guy didn't stand out too much visually.

The Finn's smirk disappeared into an almost bored expression as he looked the student over. "Sameli. The fuck are you?" His voice was calm. If he had a jackass on board this field trip then he'd be a jack ass back. "Yeah, I'm chaperoning this shindig. Got to make sure you kids don't stumble into an Acromantula nest."

There were a few other kids coming down from the castle as well, looking a little unsure. He just nodded to the new arrivals and turned on his heels. "Alright lapset let's get a move on. The sun will rise sooner or later." With that he started to trek into the dark. The trees were tall, like ridiculously tall. Together they made a canopy that blocked out any starlight. It only got darker from there, and the rising fog didn't help any either.

Sameli pulled out his wand, lighting the tip up with a simple word. One thing that was obvious was that the woods were getting thicker. He had to look back to make sure the students were still behind him. "Keep close and keep your wands out." He called out to them "there's a lot of mean things around here. But don't go attacking anything horse-like." He was pretty sure Centaurs, Unicorns, and Thestrals wouldn't appreciate a teenager throwing stunning spells at them. They were mostly harmless as long as you respect their space and don't bother them.

His eyes went back to their surroundings, looking for a clearing without plants that had "poison" in the name. It would probably take a while though. For now, he was in the dark dark woods with kids and merely wands as light sources. Things were going on with a strong start.

Don’t worry we shall have wonderful dreams.

You've got that "we're in trouble" look.
"Dang Sam. You graduate and suddenly we're 'kids?'"

Kate walked up to the trio that was waiting, a half smile on her face the tip of her wand faintly glowing to light the way for her. She hadn't meant to be late, but she had been so close to finishing her homework that it would have been useless to leave it as it had been before she came out. "Hi everyone."

At least she had found them before they had gone in. She shifted the strap of her bag higher up on her shoulder and followed them into the forest, any remaining light quickly vanishing until it was just her wand and then the wands of the others.

"Would anything horse-like even come near us?" Kate asked. To be fair, they were entering their home (whatever it is that was horse shaped or otherwise), but the question still remained.

Behind the masks that pass for faces Hours are lost in forbidden places
Raeya was eager to let the formalities go, this trip was actually supposed to be fun. She and EJ needed that after what they'd been through this summer. She should have known that he would have a smart-assed comment for whoever they encountered. The two of them were alike a lot in the sense that they were unemotional and standoffish towards nearly everyone. Him much more so than her, clearly.

She noticed Sameli's smirk, but she had no response for it. She shook her head lightly as EJ sparked the same jackass behavior in Sameli, rolling her eyes just a little. "This is EJ." She replied in her normal, monotone voice. She paused, biting her bottom lip lightly. It didn't feel right to introduce him as just a friend but they hadn't quite discussed what they were. What the hell, she decided. They didn't owe anyone an explanation. "He's rude." She said pointedly, her gaze meeting EJ's for a moment. Even so, she slipped her hand into his. "We're camping in the Forbidden Forest." Had she not told him that before now?

The Prefect was surprised at how quickly she got used to holding his hand in public, though that was really all. It had been hard to go from having him sleeping next to her half of the summer to hardly being able to touch him without stares or discipline.

Rae nodded at Sameli's answer. "I'm prepared to handle an acromantuala.' She replied, before thinking. Their summer's events weren't common knowledge, but nonetheless, Raven thought herself prepared for anything now. She smirked, which indicated that she might be joking. She just didn't want to explain. . . But she was dead serious.

The crowd started to move and she trailed behind a little with EJ, making them the back of the pack. Though she felt secure, she heeded Sameli's warning anyways and drew her wand. She held it with her left hand which was not her normal hand, but being ambidextrous made it close enough. "I thought I would just practice my wandless magic instead." She raised her voice to carry through the group and to Sameli. Her voice took on a sarcastic tone, but she was rather serious again. If she had been able to create an unrecognizable blast, maybe practice could get her the rest of the way there.

Approaching footsteps caused Rae to stop momentarily and look back. She recognized the girl approaching. K-something, it was? She had seen her around the castle a few times, but she surely wasn't from Hogwarts. "Probably not. They'd most likely run away. They don't particularly like Wizards. Not that I blame them." The wizarding world was harsh on 'half-breeds' and magical creatures.

EJ rolled his eyes when the other guy, Sameli, gave his name and then asked who the fuck he was. Rae was quick to introduce him, though, which earned a sideways glance from EJ. His attention settled briefly on the other girl. She was easy on the eyes, at least she had that going for her.

Raeya said that he was rude, gaining EJ’s attention again. Setting his jaw, he at least didn’t pull away when Rae’s fingers slipped between his. He’d agreed to go along with Rae but he sure as hell hadn’t actually been listening to whatever he’d just gotten himself in. Camping. In the Forbidden Forest. Yeah, this seemed like a great idea. Not.

As they walked, EJ kept his free hand in his pocket, fingers wrapped around his wand. He wasn’t going to walk around like some idiot with his wand out in front of him. Raeya made a comment about wandless magic and he smirked at that. “Yeah, not sure yer should be practicin' that 'ere. Don't they think it's impossible, eh, luv?” he asked sarcastically. He knew that it was possible for Raeya to do wandless magic when she needed it.

Chantal had a habit of showing up out of absolutely nowhere. She was naturally very light and quiet on her feet, and when she wasn't being made fun of, she was often practically invisible to everyone around her. The gardening club had a few friendly faces, but really, only Ulrich noticed her.

She hadn't known of a planned trip to the Forbidden Forest, she had already been out there. Chani was a bit nature obsessed and often, she found that she enjoyed the company of creatures over people. Though she had yet to find one, Chantal had always longed to see an Acromantula. She was ballsy, and she truly believed that they were just misunderstood and could be befriended. Whether that was true or not, it was probably good that she had never found out.

The small Blonde had been in the forest, following what could either be Centaur or Unicorn tracks. Whichever it turned out to be, she wanted to find the track leaver. However, upon hearing voices she had to abandon her cause. Just in case, she circled back around to the voices and dound what appeared to be a school trip. Walking up behind the group, she called out "Hey guys!" She was stood just behind Raeya Roth, a girl she only knew as a prefect and that troublemaker whose name she didn't know that she deducted Raeya was involved with.

She didn't mean to startle anyone, but the purple-haired girl practically jumped out of her skin, throwing herself into the troublemaker. Odd, the way that she reacted, one would think she had experienced some kind of trauma. Chani's face dropped a little. "I am so sorry. . . I did not mean to startle you, Raeya."

(Hope this is okay, I need Chani posts <3)

Just as he’d been joking with Raeya about the use of wandless magic, a blonde approached the group, calling out a greeting and damn near scaring Rae right out of her skin. EJ’s arms came up to both catch and steady the purple-haired girl as she practically launched herself at him. “Eh, up, Rae, yer okay? Jesus, yor jumpy, right,” he said, taking a step back and keeping a steady hand on his girl as he turned his attention to the blonde. “Stupid fink ter do, sneakin' up on a group like that.”

The blonde apologized, sure, but EJ just rolled his eyes and shook his head, attention returning to Raeya. “Come on, Rae, w’ we even 'ere, 'uh? Let's just go.” He didn’t even know why he had agreed to go on this thing to begin with but it definitely wasn’t anything that EJ would typically willingly put himself through. He could only hope that Raeya would understand. He’d feel pretty stupid leaving this little camping party without his girl.

You've got that "we're in trouble" look.
Wandless magic sounded rather interesting, even though Kate knew the other two were joking about it. It was something she kept meaning to practice, because on the off chance she figured out how and somehow got good at it, it meant she could keep competing at the dueling club even though someone had disarmed her. Along with just being handy in general.

Kate whirled around at the sound of another voice. She knew her vaguely from class. But just how many people were coming out for the camping trip? "Hello." She said politely after the guy had said his piece. God, what was his name? Why was she so bad with names this year?

But he wanted to leave. "Whoa, it was just an accident. Besides, nothing has even really happened yet." Kate shifted her bag on her shoulder as they stood in the wandlight. "Don't you want to see if we run across something? Or if anything possibly shows up?"

BEHIND THE MASKS THAT PASS FOR FACES, HOURS ARE LOST IN FORBIDDEN PLACES

Raeya had glued herself to EJ's side after the incident with Chantal. Yes, she was a tiny blonde girl but with the events that happened over their summer, it was no wonder that Raeya was reacting like it had been her father or a dementor sneaking up on them. Adrenaline pulsed through her veins, screaming at her to run. As much fun as this trip had sounded, going back sounded even better when EJ proposed it. Maybe this camping trip had been a bad idea, if she couldn't even recover from a sneaking up on by Chantal Warner of all people.

Rae swallowed hard and looked between Katelyn and Chantal for a moment. She seemed overstimulated and terrified. Finally, she looked up at EJ once more and nodded, her gaze shifting to the ground. It was embarrassing for her, having talked such a big game to now being the first one leaving. As much as it wounded her pride, she couldn't handle it and it didn't take a lot of contemplation for her to realize that.

Finally, resigning herself to being labeled lame, she opened her mouth to speak. "Yeah. . . I want to go back." Her words were soft, not necessarily wanting the whole group to hear. She looked anxious as she turned to go, her hand tethering herself to EJ
