Spring had settled in full force at Hogwarts; the snow that had seemed never ending over the winter break was finally starting to thaw, leaving behind small buds of flowers just on the brink of blooming. The icy smell of winter that had lingered well into April was gone, and every day Cheza stepped outside in the sunshine, she felt more positive that better things were to come.<BR><BR>
It was a completely different situation at Durmstrang. The cold sting that always seemed to hover around her old campus bit at the parts of her skin she hadn't covered when she crossed over the barrier. There was surprisingly still icy patches, stubbornly clinging to the ground in a last ditch effort to trip up anyone not paying attention. Cheza knew if she headed up to the castle, she was sure to run into a few of them; it would be as ever cold as it had been when she was a student. A winter wonderland to some. It had seemed like her own personal prison the first two years she'd spent here, and after that, it had only been warmed by the presence of the friends she'd kept close to her heart.<BR><BR>
Thankfully the bitter cold didn't linger this close to the coastline. Something about the warm winds over the sea- it wasn't as pleasant as laying out in the sun in the gardens of Hogwarts or sitting by the fire in her room late at night, but it was better than dragging herself through the snow. The sand and rocks crunched under her feet as she walked just out of the reach of the water, lost for a moment in the memories. Her boys racing and wrestling while Kyler herded her farther away, like he was afraid she'd walk right into the water.<BR><BR>
It had been the pain of missing them all and the nostalgia that had drawn her out today. She tried her hardest to spend as much time as possible with the youngest member of their little "pack," but like Kyler, Toby was busy with school and she was busy with work and it didn't work out as often as she wanted. It had been a last minute decision, but with any luck her little note to Toby would reach him soon, and he'd be able to sneak away for a little walk with her.<BR><BR>
He'd have to go back to classes or homework eventually, but even seeing her Toby for a little bit would be enough.

"Cheza?"
<BR><BR>
Cheza perked her attention up from the busy counter in front of her, blinking away at the confusion for a few seconds. The voice was vaguely familiar in the way that forgotten dreams are- she could recognize it, but she couldn't place it, couldn't even begin to try. It wasn't the voice she was expecting to hear; the barista in front of her still had his head down, working on some drink while the floating utensils worked on the tea that she'd ordered a few minutes earlier.
<BR><BR>
"Cheza Lunel? Is that you?"
<BR><BR>
There was no way to pretend that she couldn't hear him in a tiny coffee shop like this; she could feel the eyes of the people that were sitting in the booth closest to her watching them already. Fighting off a flush under their scrutiny, she turned around to the blurry face that was approaching her. She tried to place it- the light brown shaggy hair and slightly tanned skin, the smell of sunshine underneath all the coffee around them- but came up empty.
<BR><BR>
Thankfully, he seemed to notice and if he was bothered by it, she couldn't tell. "It's Oliver DeLuca. We went to Durmstrang together."
<BR><BR>
"Oliver." Cheza repeated back quietly, recognition slowly settling in. A bell tinkled quietly on the countertop just a little bit away from the two of them, and the wizard behind the counter lifted his head to call out her name. She wrapped her hands around the warmth seeping through the paper cup and took the quiet moment to collect her thoughts. "...I remember you. We sat at the same table in Potions class in 3rd year."
<BR><BR>
She didn't have to have perfect vision to see the way his face lit up at her comment.
<BR><BR>
Despite Cheza's soft excuses that she was meeting someone in a few minutes, the two of them ended up at a table together by the front window of the cafe. Northern Sweden was still chilly at the beginning of year, but the sun had made an appearance that morning and didn't seem to be going anywhere any time soon. That was fine with Cheza. Sitting behind the giant glass storefront was as close as she could get to sitting outside without bundling back up in the ginormous red coat she had draped against the back of her chair, and for now, trading the comfort of the free chilly air and sunshine was worth the comforts of a warm cuppa.
<BR><BR>
The company might not have been what she would have chosen for herself, had she actually been given the chance, but she couldn't complain. At least Oliver, who had known her for several years at school, would know that she preferred listening over speaking and silence over uselessly trying to fill it. Someone had commented not too long ago that she made every word count- she liked how that sounded better than the "spacey" comments some people liked to toss her way.
<BR><BR>
"Crazy to believe it's already been two years since we graduated, huh?"
<BR><BR>
Cheza tries to give that question the moment it deserves but comes up short of an answer. It is crazy to believe in some ways, and in others, it isn't. These past two years since graduation felt like they flew right by- it felt like just last week she was announcing to everyone's surprise that she had changed her mind about pursuing her potions mastery and had decided to follow her own dreams instead.
<BR><BR>
But at the same time, she felt like these past two years had completely changed her. She wasn't the timid girl that she had been during school, even if she still preferred the quieter approach. She felt more comfortable in her own skin, less like she was walking on eggshells and other people's expectations and more like she was a flower blooming out of its bud and soaking up the sun. But it was hard to sum that feeling of accepting herself into words, and she supposed that if Oliver hadn't noticed that she'd cut all her hair off and wasn't wearing the glasses she'd always worn back then, then it wasn't her job to try.
<BR><BR>
Oliver didn't seem to need an answer to continue with his thoughts. When Cheza turned her attention from where it had drifted out the window to Oliver's shoulder, she could see that he'd turned his attention to staring out the window. "Sometimes I miss the good ol'days, you know? School was the only structure I had in my life. When I first got out, I just... didn't know what to do with myself."
<BR><BR>
She wasn't sure how to agree with that statement without feeling like she was lying to him. Structure was probably her least favorite part about any form of school, and she hardly missed it considering she hadn't really gone very long without it. Since she had entered the apprenticeship program straight after graduation, she'd fallen right back into a school schedule when the summer break after her seventh year had come to a close.
<BR><BR>
Cheza especially couldn't pretend that she missed Durmstrang. No, Durmstrang was all cold, fire less and dark stone hallways. It hadn't been a place for Cheza... or anyone, actually, as far as she was concerned. She always made sure to treat the Durmstrang students in her classes with a little extra care knowing what they had to return back to.
<BR><BR>
When the ministry first contacted her family nearly nine years ago about her magic, they had been attempting to convince her to attend Hogwarts since it was the closest school to her home. But her parents were helicopter parents at best and just plain picky at their worst, so just like with her elementary schooling, they had fiercely sought after the best of the best for their little girl. So instead of transferring from her sunny magnet school in Wales to the open, kind Hogwarts, Cheza ended up at the bottom of Set 3, miles away from home and warmth and comfort.
<BR><BR>
Despite working her way up the Sets and having met some of the people she was closest with during those years, Cheza didn't consider Durmstrang to be a highlight in her life.
<BR><BR>
"I wouldn't know," Cheza settled on finally, lifting her cup of tea slowly so she could finish her thought. Sometimes her mind worked faster than her mouth did, but thankfully this time she was able to hold onto the thought before it disappeared. "I guess, technically, I'm still in school."
<BR><BR>
"Ah, that's right!" Oliver turned his attention back from the window, shaking off his obvious melancholy. "You entered that teaching program they started. How's that going?"
<BR><BR>
She finished her sip with an indulgent smile. "It's going well, actually. The professor let me lead a few lessons last term, and the students seemed to like it."
<BR><BR>
With the way the schools were combined now, there weren't many people in the elective that didn't want to be there. It made it a lot easier to stand in front of a crowd of students barely younger than herself knowing that they were all there willingly and eager to learn.
<BR><BR>
The students that signed up this year were a good starting group- when she'd first signed up her 7th year, she'd been nervous that she just didn't have the personality to be a good teacher. Thankfully a lot of the students took to her quieter demeanor better than she could have hoped; it seemed some of them actually preferred it over some of the louder, over-the-top lessons they got from some of the teachers they had.
<BR><BR>
There were still lesson plans to be done, of course, something she had originally hoped to get done before the person she was meeting showed up, but, she thought rather mournfully eyes still focused on a spot just a bit above Oliver's right shoulder, that probably isn't going to happen now.
<BR><BR>
Cheza came out of her thoughts wondering on if she'd have time to do them in the train to realize that she'd missed whatever it was Oliver had just said. When it didn't seem like he was going to repeat it, she gave in and tilted her head to the side as she asked, "What was the question?"
<BR><BR>
He laughed, and it sounded good humored at least, not necessarily at her so much as at her reaction. She had gotten pretty good at telling the difference over the years. "I asked what they had you teaching."
<BR><BR>
"Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts."
<BR><BR>
Her unexpected tea date whistled, apparently as impressed by that statement as all her other friends had been. She didn't quite follow the logic. Did everyone think that it took some strong man to keep the creatures in line? A lot of the creatures she worked with and taught about were much more easily calmed with respect than they were with aggression. The professor she worked with said that she had a special way with the creatures they handled, but all she did was treat them with the same amount of trust and kindness that she'd want to be treated. She'd looked many a creature in the eye and found more intelligence and compassion there than she'd found in a lot of humans.
<BR><BR>
He sagged under her vacant stare when she didn't continue or offer up a change of subject, clearing his throat to try and take back control of the conversation. "So, um... how's your family taking it with you being so far from home? I remember you saying both your parents were muggles."
<BR><BR>
"They're both fine, as far as I know."
<BR><BR>
The last letter she'd gotten from her mother was a perfectly typed out response to the hand written birthday letter Cheza has sent her almost a month ago. They were still arguing about Cheza's career choice, even though Cheza thought she'd made it very clear to her that she was pursuing what she wanted. Her mother had dropped a few hints here and there about some labs hiring interns near the one she worked at while she was updating her daughter about her life. It was pristine, passive aggressive, and impersonal as it always was; it fit her mother to a T.<BR><BR>
It wasn't that she didn't think her mother loved her- Cheza knew for sure that her mother would always love her, no matter what. She just had high expectations of her daughter. Expectations that Cheza never had any intention of meeting.<BR><BR>
She didn't hear much from her father anymore since the divorce. It didn't look like she would ever get a response back to any of the letters she sent. It was disappointing, but she could almost understand where he was coming from.<BR><BR>
As much as she loved her father, she could only assume that it was hard for a geneticist to get past biology being shoved in his face day in and day out. At some point in their marriage, her mother and father had loved each other enough to want a child in their lives. When they found out that her father couldn't have children, they did what any good scientists would- turn to science.<BR><BR>
With a little help from a donor (listed with a high IQ, even above their own), they had Cheza. It wasn't a surprise that she looked like her mother and some man that they'd never met or knew the name of, but it never settled well with her father that Cheza looked so different from his dark hair and darker skin. She would have labeled her birthdate as the start of the downfall of their marriage if anyone had cared enough to ask. It surprised her that they lasted as long as they had; she hadn't seen love in either of their eyes for a very long time.<BR><BR>
Her genetics didn't bother Cheza like it did her father. Her father would always be her father. She supposed some wizards might be a little appalled by her being a test tube baby if they ever found out, but that didn't bother Cheza either. Wizards could be backwards about a lot of things they didn't consider natural. As though magic was in any way "natural".<BR><BR>
They both fell into a comfortable silence, and Cheza turned her attention fully back to enjoying her tea. The charms the shop used on their cups kept the liquid at just the right temperature, and Cheza was enjoying the star treatment. The room she had at Hogwarts was her own little paradise on Earth- filled with flowers and open windows and forgotten tea cups scattered about; she always ended up forgetting about her tea and letting it get cold before she could finish it. She wondered if the baristas would tell her what spell they used if she asked very nicely.
<BR><BR>
"I meant to ask..." Oliver trailed off and didn't continue until Cheza lifted her far off gaze a bit from the cup in her hands. "Do you live here now? I thought you would still be in Wales while you were teaching, especially since it's so much closer to Hogwarts, but," he gestured to her like he just realized she was sitting across from him, "here you are."
<BR><BR>
She smiled at that: yes, here she was.
<BR><BR>
"I'm visiting a friend. We both had a spare weekend, and he's promised to take me around some of the castle gardens. I hear they're beautiful, even this time of year."
<BR><BR>
He would probably be arriving at the cafe in a few minutes too if she had to guess. She never carried a watch, not too concerned with keeping to any time tables other than when it was absolutely necessary, and they hadn't really decided on a time when they'd planned this weeks ago. Well, now that she thought about it, Kyler had decided on a time, hadn't he? Not that she could remember what time he'd said... She was sure at least it was some time this morning, which was why she'd showed up alone.
<BR><BR>
For the first time since the conversation started, Oliver seemed unsure of himself. Cheza couldn't see his expression well, but there was a hesitation in his next question that caught her attention, "A friend? Or a friend?"
<BR><BR>
Cheza considered him a friend.
<BR><BR>
The emphasis felt necessary when she thought or talked about Kyler Weylyn. He'd been looking out for her since they'd first met years ago in school, had become one of her closest friends over the years they'd spent together. He liked to throw how they met in her face- how he'd literally saved her from walking off a cliff when she'd been paying no attention. It didn't matter how many times she reminded him that she'd been upset or that she almost always caught herself on stairs just fine on her own, they both knew that she was lucky that he happened to be around that day.
<BR><BR>
And lucky that he'd decided to stick around too. He was one of the main reasons that Cheza was able to work her way up to Set 1. Thinking about it now, they must have seemed like an odd pair at first- the half-blind muggleborn and the Weylyn heir, miles apart in ages and practically everything else- but that basically described their entire friend group as a whole. The pack of them: Kyler, Blue, Tsume, Hige... since she was younger, Cheza had missed all of them desperately when they'd graduated before her. Leaving Tobias behind a year after that had been even harder.
<BR><BR>
But she knew that wasn't what Oliver was getting at.
<BR><BR>
"If you're trying to ask if I'm dating him," Cheza answered cautiously, already fearing where this conversation was heading. "I'm not."
<BR><BR>
"Ah still single, huh? Yeah, me too. It keeps getting harder and harder these days to meet people." He leaned forward a bit, swimming a bit more into focus, and Cheza could feel a sigh building in her chest when she realized he was taking the conversation exactly where she'd hoped he wouldn't. "Hey Cheza, while you're here do you want to-"
<BR><BR>
A knock on the window cut Oliver short and startled Cheza enough that she spilled some of her tea on the table. She looked up from the spill while Oliver rushed to grab at some napkins and smiled at the taller person blocking out her sun on the other side of the window, panic passing just as quickly as it came. At least this was familiar- she was rather used to her best friend towering over her.
<BR><BR>
Kyler arched an eyebrow on the other side of the window at Cheza's impromptu coffee date then turned his bored expression on her waving at him through the glass, smiling just ever so slightly as he turned to come join them inside.
<BR><BR>
"Oh Merlin," Oliver groaned, sounding like all the wind had left his sails, and when Cheza turned back around to him, he was leaning over the table with napkins pressed to the spill between them, "you're meeting Weylyn? Of course you are." There was a disbelief and disappointment in his words that had Cheza frowning a bit to herself. She was used to that tone- the one most people took when she or Kyler assured people that they weren't together.
<BR><BR>
She was halfway through debating on if it was worth trying to explain that men and women could be friends without any sort of romantic feelings between them when the little enchanted bell above the door dinged out a soft melody as Kyler came inside. Cheza didn't realize that she was watching for him until Oliver stood up and passed in front of her gaze. "I just remembered, I have some place to be. It was good to see you again, Cheza. I hope the school thing works out for you."
<BR><BR>
By the time she'd opened her mouth to thank him, he was already out the door.
<BR><BR>
Oh well. No great loss there, though he'd be pleasant enough company. Cheza wrapped her hands back around her tea cup and hummed one of her favorite Gaelic lullabies softly into the lid, eyes wandering back over to Kyler paying the woman behind the counter. She tracked his entire walk over with a secret smile, beaming up at him when he finally paused to stand over her.
<BR><BR>
"You ready?"
<BR><BR>
Yes, she was.

<h1>CONNECTIONS</h1>
name Cheza is her canon name. It appears to be a shortened version of Chezarina, which is a male version of Cesar. (<a href="http://www.babynames.com/baby-names/Chezarina">Genuinely surprised it's not a made up name, tbh.</a>) Blodeuwedd is a name from Welsh mythology that means "face of flowers" in Welsh. In the story, she is created out of flowers by Gwydion to be the wife of his nephew; that seemed like seemed like a strong connection to canon Cheza, who was created from lunar flowers herself. Lunel is a random last name I was coming across when trying to find lunar connections- it doesn't mean moon, but lune is too good of a connection to pass up.
<BR><BR>
personality/history Canon Cheza was genetically created from lunar flowers, so to mirror that, I made Cheza's parents scientists and made her a test tube baby.
<BR><BR>
school/set Cheza attended Durmstrang despite living closer to Hogwarts at her mother's request- even with Wizarding schools, her mother wanted her to have the best education she could possibly get. Since she is a muggleborn, I put her in Set 3 to begin with and had her climb the ranks over time with the help of her friends.
<BR><BR>
occupation Canon Cheza was genetically created from lunar flowers, so to mirror that, I made Cheza's parents scientists and made her a test tube baby. She's blind in the manga and anime, but I didn't think I could do that true justice. Being legally blind I thought was a good compromise- not looking directly at anyone, just catching herself from falling down stairs, etc. are all things that canon Cheza does as well. The story of how she and Kyler meet is a direct reference to the series, where Cheza very nearly walks off a cliff and catches herself at the last moment.<BR>
Since Cheza had such a strong connection to the wolf pack in canon, I decided to put her in the apprenticeship program under the Care of Magical Creatures professor. In canon, Cheza has an unnatural ability to calm the wolves- they trust her almost immediately without knowing why. On Bomb, Cheza has an ability with the creatures she works with that almost seems unnatural; she obviously wouldn't be able to calm a dragon, but she has a calming aura and is respectful, so most smaller-threat creatures don't see her as a threat.<BR>
In canon, Cheza seemed to wilt when she goes without sunlight for a period of time, so I made this Cheza an outdoor lover who would rather be outside, no matter the weather, instead of being cooped up inside. Unless there's good tea obviously. It's why she doesn't do well at Durmstrang where it is rather cold and dismal until she meets her friends. Her favorite color is red, mostly because that's the main color in <a href="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/b3/9a/b5/b39ab5f52e14e1325191e32c52686575.jpg">one of the outfits her canon character wore</a>.<BR>
Her loyalty and love for her friends, specifically "the pack" comes straight from canon. Cheza literally dies for the wolves in Wolf's Rain and puts her life at risk many times before that. Cheza has a calming affect on the wolves around her, and in the anime she's able to put them to sleep and heal their wounds. I didn't want to take a direct route there, but I imagine Cheza is a safe place for the pack and all the other people who trust her. She's quiet and non-judgmental and some people just have that soothing aura, you know?<BR>
Cheza sings Gaelic lullabies in the canon, so I kept that little quirk about her. This didn't really come up in the app because I couldn't figure out how to work it in, but it might come up on site: Cheza panics at the sight of blood. (In canon, she screams at the sight of spilt wolf blood.)
<BR><BR>
wand I thought a tiny wand would fit a tiny girl. English oak has an "affinity" with the natural world and is supposed to have a connection "with the creatures and plants that are necessary to wizardkind." Dittany was just one of the cores on the wikia, though the healing properties seemed appropriate considering Cheza's calm manner that's almost healing in a spiritual way. /deep
<BR><BR>
boggart/patronus The wolf is an obvious reference to Wolf's Rain and how canon Cheza didn't like her wolves to get hurt or wounded. It's a little less some "thing" she's afraid of as it is a "situation" she's terrified of.<BR>
I almost made Cheza's patronus a wolf as well, but I thought a bunny rabbit was a little more fitting to her soft and meek nature. It might change to a wolf later as her happiest memory changes.
<BR><BR>
app style It's almost like an interview app, just written out as one big post/drabble. Trying to do apps in different styles is hard.

Cheza is the current teaching apprentice for the Care of Magical Creatures class at Hogwarts. She's a Durmstrang Alumnus (Set 1) and muggleborn (possibly, since she doesn't know her biological father). If you need to find her, she's more than likely in the sunniest spot on Hogwarts grounds with a cup of tea and an open invitation to join her. Basically, Cheza is a quiet and quirky person- so what if she doesn't quite meet your eyes and sometimes doesn't answer you when you ask a question? She's kind to a fault and makes every word she says count. But, be careful about stepping on her toes- no surprise she has a crew of guard dog friends who will take it personally.

<br><br><br>

<h2>FRIENDS</h2>
Cheza is a sweet and genuine person. If she does have a negative thought, she usually keeps it to herself. While she's a little spacey, she's a great friend to lean on. Her ability to calm people is almost to a supernatural level- you would swear it was magic at times. Don't be surprised if she offers you a cup of tea when you come to visit. For students, it's possible for her to be like a surrogate mother/older sister? She's a good listener and offers a warm smile when you need it most. I'm horrible at these things, just be her friend.

<p>

<h2>LOVERS</h2>
She's not dating Kyler Weylyn, despite what everyone seems to think. She's also not actively looking for a significant other. She'll politely explain to the people who ask her out that she's not interested in dating right now, so at least they won't be let down hard?

<p>

<h2>ENEMIES</h2>
I imagine that Cheza's spacey personality could be frustrating at times. People who are straight to the point and have no patient probably find her getting distracted in the middle of conversations and just plain not answering at times super annoying. She personally is a complete pacifist and doesn't like violence; she panics at the sight of blood- so anyone that's fighting in front of her immediately goes on her "avoid" list. If Cheza doesn't like someone, she will straight up ignore them.

<p>

<h2>OTHER</h2>
She's going to interact with the students of her Care of Magical Creatures class a lot, including saying hello to them when she sees them outside of class. Same goes for the Hogwarts staff members, some of which will probably find her randomly in their classrooms just to be social.
<BR><BR>
Cheza's paternal parentage is kind of open, since she has no clue who the donor was other than "a scientist" like her parents; if that fits any of your plots in whatever way, just hit me up.
