comrade; another word for family
All her hard work; it had come together now. Getting the entire Ministry of Europe not only united but also properly functioning had been... a trial. There had been so many arguments to even get to this point that it made her brain hurt. But under her control were her ex-Department, the Department of Education, the Department of Mysteries and the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. It was a hefty load, but she was ready to take it on and show the world that united they could do anything!

Now though, she was sitting in her office with her feet propped up on her desk. For the next few days (while things were a little less hectic) she'd sent out word that her office was completely open. Any employees had a free ticked in there, even offering for the schools to have a few educational visits. Or at least students would be allowed to come in and ask her questions. One way or the other, she needed someone to come in and just talk. Forget all this Minister business she needed to relax and chat with anyone. Maybe it was about time she went and visited the Law Enforcement Department again. Make Shiro's life more difficult.

Yawning she flung her feet off her desk and sprung up, landing with her arms outstretched and feet together. If someone had been standing there, she'd have expected applause. But there wasn't anyone there to applaud at the moment which was enough to make her cry a little. Ah well someone was bound to drop by soon. Walking over to her window she'd lean against the wall nearby, looking down.

"Things sure have changed since I moved from my last office..."

open + pls come in!

This was an entirely practical thing to do, yes, indeed, yes, he was quite sure of that. When any sort of chain of command was changed, the first course of action was to ensure everyone was well acquainted with each other so that all future communications could proceed smoothly. Yes, exactly that, yes. One should not be expected to send owls to staff that one does not even know the face of. When the staff in question was the head of a department as well, a position that needed to be perfectly synchronised with the overall Minister of Magic to ensure optimum performance of the Ministry as a whole, it was even more important.

Maxie had completed all the necessary introductions on his first day in his role as the head of the department for the regulation and control of magical creatures, and had ensured a proper meeting was set up with the Minister of Magic for the UK to discuss all the relevant changes when the department had been split into two as well. It had helped that Oswald Cobblepot was an old acquaintance of his, so the conversation flowed easily enough when matters of business were discussed. Both of those encounters had been quite pleasant in the end, and very practical. Maxie could only hope this one would go the same.

Almost as soon as he had settled into his new office (bigger than his last, thank goodness, though he was still sharing with Archie… maybe they could discuss that at today’s meeting), he had set off down the corridors of the new Ministry of Europe building in the direction of Mavis Vermillion’s own office. There had been something mentioned at the induction meeting today about her having an open-door policy so that people could just drop by while they settled in, and he planned to take full advantage of that. Despite working in the same building for presumably several years by now, Maxie was quite sure he’d never met the woman – he didn’t exactly frequent the department of law enforcement, and couldn’t imagine why someone of her station would ever have visited his own area of the Ministry. So it would be fresh introductions all round, on top of the general action of reporting to his new boss for practicalities sake. Yes, good, yes.

Everything was very well sign posted, much clearer than the UK Ministry’s layout, and he soon found himself on the right hallway. Taking a moment outside the doorway to straighten his appearance and clear his throat, he lifted a hand to knock against the door with her nameplate attached, running through the list of things he needed to say to her in his head as he waited to be let in. Because one should always have a list prepared for these sorts of things.

All of these formalities- it wasn't that Mavis disliked them per say, she understood they were necessary to run a Ministry and all that sort of thing. But they felt inconvenient, like it was a barrier between her and potential comrades. Even with her distaste for such things she'd landed important positions both as a head of a department, now at the new Minister of Europe. A lot of power for someone with such a level of disregard for underlined rules. But she wouldn't argue! It just meant more room to influence people to understand her side of this.

Just as she thought that, there was a knock at the door. Finally! Someone who was happy to come and speak with her~ It was tough waiting and something she despised was being bored. Paperwork? Psh. She'd done enough of that as a head of a department. What Mavis wanted right now was face-to-face interaction or a call ou- oh. Yeah. She didn't really get call outs anymore. Nor was she allowed to answer them and go to arrest people. Drat.

Opening the door in one rather jerky motion, a smile was plastered all over her face. Genuine joy, that was for certain. "Maximilian Ruber! I didn't expect a visit from you- come on in!" She'd move away from the door in a welcoming gesture, hopeful that he might be open for casual conversation... although deep inside Mavis knew it was unlikely. No one ever came to visit her just to chat about the day anymore. "I can get some drinks if you'd like! Tea? Coffee? Wine?"

Ah, she already knew who he was. Well that made the introductions a little more redundant then… Although he of course already knew her name and face as well and had still been intending to come down here regardless so perhaps this didn’t change anything – it might just make it easier since it did already imply that he wouldn’t have to explain his role to her since she seemed familiar enough with him already. That meant they could get straight to the important stuff and get this over with quicker… Not that he didn’t want to have this meeting with the Minister of course, he did, it would be very helpful in the long run and potentially useful in his career too, it was just, he had lots of other things to do today… And also, to be honest, he just preferred being on his own. Not that he was alone in his office anymore either. Definitely needed to mention that to her.

He smiled at her greeting then, and at the enthusiasm she delivered it with, and stepped inside when she welcomed him in. “Ms Vermillion. I just wanted to stop by for a more formal introduction since we will actually be working together from now.” And the occasional pass in a corridor or at an office party (that he very rarely frequented anyway) would not have been enough for this new venture. “I do hope I am not intruding but I heard your office was open for this today. I am quite happy to make an appointment if not.” After all, Maxie hated people dropping into his office unannounced – but then he had never had an open-door policy for exactly that reason. Archie did though, so Archie got random visitors at any hour of the day, who would come barging in whether his colleague was actually there or not, leaving Maxie to fend them off instead. Yes, he definitely did need to bring that up.

He felt his heart seize just a tiny bit as she offered him a drink. Oh no, a choice, offered to him by his new boss, an important woman, who would be carefully considering his answer. This could be a test, even just a subconscious one, so he had to ensure he provided the correct answer here. That clearly wasn’t wine then, that was the most obvious pitfall, to suggest drinking alcoholic beverages in the middle of the day. But then caffeine was technically a drug, so was coffee also out of the question? Would it imply he needed stimulants to be able to effectively do his job? Possibly, so worth staying clear of that. And though he could possibly suggest a drink she hadn’t listed, that would likely also be seen as rude, questioning her skills as a hostess by pointing out an option she had missed. Hmm, well that only left one thing then didn’t it? “Tea please. Black, one sugar.” No sooner had he spoken than the thought popped into his head that perhaps he was supposed to have declined her offer, said no thank you and continued on without one. Maybe it had been entirely polite, and not a genuine question at all. And besides, now he was trapped here until he finished the drink, and she might not have wanted him that long.

He gulped slightly, resigning himself to downing the tea as quickly as possible no matter how it might scald his tongue, as he took a look around the room he was now in. “How are you finding your new office? Settling into the role okay?”
