Kate's Canon: Ahsoka Tano

The cyrstal in her hand was surprisingly heavy for something so small. Ahsoka didn't remember her first crystal-safely houosed in the lighstaber at her hip-being that heavy. Maybe it was one of the kyber crystal's ways of letting others kenw ti was more than a pretty face.

Yoda hadn't said a word when she had followed after the younglings, who were in search of their first crystals. She had felt a calling, rther than hearing anything. Once properly inside the frigid cave, Ahsoka had made her own path, the echoes of the younglings' conversation fading until she could only hear her footfalls, her breathing, and a ringing that was growing louder with every passing moment.

She remembered vividly what had happened next, and not just because it had just happened. Kybers were earned, the process often having meanings not immediately clear. And she still didn't understand the ground falling away beneath her feet, or the maze that had felt like it had taken ages to navigate. But that would be a puzzle for a later time, as the last youngling returned.

~*~*~*~*~*~

"Wasn't this supposed to get easier the second time around?" she muttered to herself. They were all back on the Gathering ship, course set for Coruscant, and the parts for her newest lightsaber were sitting in front of her, not even remotely resembling the weapon now sitting off to the side. She had already done this once before, and yet she was stuck in the same spots the other younglings were.

"Focused, you are not." the tiny green master had a habit of appearing when least expected. "Clear your mind, young one." Ahsoka nodded, and turned back to the mess of pieces in front of her. Her mind did not want to be clear. It wanted to think on the riddle the cave had given her, and see how the other younglings were doing, and was she and Anakin going to be sent out as soon as she got back to the city world?

Yeah, this was totally focused.

Ahsoka took a deep breath, and closed her eyes. Those thoughts weren't going to help her, the questions could wait. If on the off chance she had to leave as soon as they got back to the temple (which was more likely than an 'off chance'), she'd need this done. Her master tended towards aggressive negotiations as opposed to diplomacy. Clear my mind... She raised one hand, the pieces in front of her floating up. She could see through the Force what she was trying to make...it was making it that was the problem. No...focus on the solution, not the problem. Her hand moved again, the smaller pieces moving into place.

The internal conversation continued, pieces moved back and forth until they settled in space to where they were eventually going to end up, until finally, everything slid together. She felt it, rather than saw it. Ahsoka opened her eyes to see the other younglings staring at her, at the sibling to the lightsaber she already had. They were clearly hers, but still clearly different. Siblings, not twins.

Master Yoda smiled, which was praise within itself. Ahsoka picked up her newest lightsaber, turning it over in her hand. A shiny casing for the glowing crystal she had found. She stood up and pressed down on the activation buttons, and a golden beam burst into being in front of her and her audience.

Well...the puzzles kept growing, didn't they?

ooc: because the show never explained where she got her second lightsaber, and I wanted to do something with that.

What the actual hell was she doing here?
<p>
It was a weekend. Her two days free of work and the mess that it had been for the past month. She was supposed to be sleeping, or doing laundry, or grocery shopping, or, or literally anything else. Instead, sleep hadn't come. Her thoughts kept cycling back to her conversation with Takumi, if that part of the conversation could even be called a conversation. More like a month of anger and guilt and frustration that had been bottled up exploding. But her mind had remained fixed on one point even after she left work that day.
<p>
Why hadn't anyone questioned Oswald?
<p>
He wasn't like Ed. He had a job, and for all intents and purposes a legitimate business. He could still show his face in public. He had ties to the Riddler. And yet...nothing new had come in to the Auror office about any interviews. Why.
<p>
A solid part of her knew that this was not a good idea. It was also being ignored in favor of anger, and the justification that if she got anything useful, it could help the investigation, and just maybe she could actually be useful. Because if she had to file again for a solid week Kate was pretty sure she was going to scream.
<p>
She couldn't apparate to the club, it was too far into Muggle London. But that was okay. The cab ride instead had given her more time to think about what she even wanted to say to the man who had took her in for a short time, someone she hadn't seen in a few years since she finally stopped deluding herself about who the Riddler and the Penguin were.
<p>
Kate took a deep breath and went inside The Iceberg. The bouncer was sitting inside, because who would come to a night club during the day. The big guy in the suit held up his hand. "We're not open yet, missy."
<p>
She ignored him. "I'm here to see Oswald."
<p>
"Mr. Cobblepot is indispo-"
<p>
"I'm here to see him now. Where is he?" There was a trace of venom to her voice, heated by anger. She mentally kicked herself at that. If she got angry, tried to pick a fight with a man who had to be at least twice her size, she wasn't going to get anywhere.
<p>
"Mr. Cobblepot is indispo-" The man started again. Kate just barely kept herself from rolling her eyes.
<p>
"Tell him it's Katelyn. And I need to see him, now. He'll understand." She had to do this. Before she either lost her nerve or her cool.

Kate jolted awake at the sound of her phone going off, papers shifting and the mug full of pens tipping over onto her maps and notes. The ringtone was muffled, having been buried over the course of her latest all-nighter. But only one person messaged or called anymore. And she didn't even know how much longer that would last.
<p>
It had taken a fair amount of needling and prodding before Takumi had begrudgingly said yes to her request for old case information. It was old information, prior crimes that couldn't get solved, what harm could there be in Kate looking at them now? And in any case...she thought she was getting close. Closer than she would have ever gotten with the department. She wondered idly if they had finally gotten around to hiring new people as she sifted through the chaos to find her phone.
<p>
The device had gone to voicemail by the time she finally found it. Judging by the time the screen flashed at her, she had been asleep much much longer than she had originally thought. Guess that's why he had called as he had left the office. She skipped past the voicemail alert to the picture file that had accompanied it. A new riddle. More accurately an old one. One that she was going to need a shower and at least one cup of coffee to process.
<p>
Kate set the phone back down on top of the patchwork of papers and got up from the stool she had fallen asleep sitting on. It was a wonder she hadn't fallen off it. The riddle bounced through her mind as she crossed through her living room, past the map spider-webbed with pins and strings, pieces of parchment with scribbled riddles attached near marked areas. So far none of the old riddles once solved had been helpful. Heists, robberies, there was nothing for her to go after with those. She needed something different. She wasn't looking for his hints at crimes that had happened, it'd just take her to wherever he had already been and left.
<p>
It wasn't until the second cup of coffee and a bowl of cereal that the riddle finally clicked. The food was abandoned as she went back to the mess that was her living room, searching the internet to make sure she had deduced the right place. It was a condemned building. Not a bank, not a museum. An unlikely, unassuming building.
<p>
Kate smiled at the result on her phone, any trace of humor or happy that it had once carried long gone. She hadn't been happy in near to a year. "Found you." she whispered to no one in particular. It could all still be a dead end, she could have solved the riddle incorrectly. But it was something she could actually look into. She was quick in getting ready, a bag slung over one shoulder, wand in her boot, and a note left on the mat...just in case. Kate looked over the riddle one more time before a loud pop filled the area.
<p>
The same pop proceeded her as she found herself in front of the building she had just been staring at on her screen. Seeing it in person didn't make it any more appealing. Kate pulled her wand free of her boot and walked through the poorly sealed door, risking a light only once she was properly inside. The slight click of her boot heels, followed by the skittering of things she didn't want to think about, was the only noise. She didn't know what she was looking for. It was highly unlikely the tall skinny leprechaun would just be sitting, waiting for her.
<p>
Just then, the light from her wand reflected back off of something, out of the corner of her eye. Carefully, Kate pushed the door open fully with the tip of her wand, the hinges creaking in protest. Screens covered a good portion of the wall in front of her, the room itself cleaner than most of what she had seen on her way in. Cleaner than it should have been if it the building was 'condemned.'
<p>
So far she had been right. Now the hard part..."Are you watching, Nygma?" she called out to the silence. Kate was wound tighter than a spring by then. She didn't know how long this riddle had sat, didn't know what would happen with his games that didn't get set off. She just knew she was going to be in deep shit if something went wrong.

These are the events that cause Katelyn to leave Denmark and lead up to her move to Britain to live with Oz and Ed. For canon references, these events are loosely based off of the final four episodes of season five of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, aka the series finale.

This is going to be a mix between diary entries and drabbles, and I'll leave a general timeline in this post.
  • Early January: Kate misplaces her wand (Drabble)

Most of the time when Kate was dueling, there'd be some sort of excitement. But she could only face the same people and see the same spells so many times. Especially when Cody's wand went flying for what had to be the third time that club meeting.
<p>
"You really need to try something different." She said, pushing her bangs out of her face. She knew his style: push and push and push and maybe the other person would mess up. Which meant all she had to do was wait out a barrage and hit the opening she knew was bound to come.
<p>
"I'll keep that in mind, kid. It works with other people." he said, retrieving his wand from the edge of the arena where it had been blown to.
<p>
Kate felt the back of her neck burn a little bit. They were practically the same age, just off by class. "Don't call me 'kid.' And I'm not 'other people.'" She wasn't asking for much, just that she'd be called Katelyn or Kate at the very least. It never seemed to work with him and Rex though.
<p>
She went to the edge of the area and sat crossesd legged on one of the many rocks littering the area, surveying the other club members as they went about their duels. Not many people had come her way today, besides Rex and Cody and a couple of new people. But nothing that had been genuinely interesting thus far.
<p>
Kate sat that way for a decent while, crossed legged looking at the other arenas, her wand held loosely in her left hand. She heard footsteps come up from somewhere behind her. Probably Rex. She'd already gone a couple rounds with him as well, and she probably would wake up tomorrow with a lovely bruise for her troubles. But she had still beaten him. "Do you seriously think 'third time's the charm' is gonna work for ya, Rex? It didn't for Cody." She said without turning to see who it was who had walked up to her.
