Potions Mistress
With the combining of all three schools; it was considered polite to go visiting the other schools and speak with the other professors. Of course it was also part of her job as the Deputy Headmistress of Durmstrang; so her visit today was simply being polite. At least that was the excuse she gave herself as she used her free period to move over to Hogwarts through the portals.

The actual professor was giving his apprentice more responsibilities and Morticia took it upon herself to see how he was doing. She didn't doubt the professor was doing his job, but having an extra set of eyes never hurt. She had learned that early on in her own training. Much as she would have loved to spend the time with her beloved husband in glorious physical bliss, but alas, duty called.

As she neared the classroom she raised an eyebrow, it sounded like pandemonium and while she enjoyed chaos, a potions classroom was not the place for it. As she recalled this was the fourth years, they would know her then if they came to Durmstrang.

Walking into the classroom all she had to do was cough politely and every student stilled, What is going on here? She smirked internally at their fear, they knew her and her reputation, perfect. This is a classroom not a time for play.

The kids were being extra squirrely today and Dakota was at his wit’s end with this group. Fourth years. Old enough to actually not be idiots in the subject, but too young to start taking things seriously enough to not give the teachers any trouble. It didn’t help that some of them weren’t from Hogwarts but from one of the other two schools.

Today’s lesson was supposed to be about the various uses of the mandrake, specifically its uses as an antidote to poisons of all kinds, but the students didn’t seem too terribly interested in what Dakota had to say on the matter.

The doors at the back of the classroom opened and a woman stepped in, which the students didn’t seem to notice until she gave a small cough, earning her the eyes of every individual in the room, including Dakota. The room immediately fell silent and for the first time that day, Dakota could actually hear himself think. “Uh, welcome to Potions, Ms…?” Some of the students spun around and stared at him as if they couldn’t believe that he didn’t know who this woman was.

Potions Mistress
Morticia observed the bedlam that was the classroom and was very grateful there were no cauldrons going. As much as she loved chaos and embraced it; a potions classroom was not the place for it. She respected her craft far too much to allow this to happen. It was clear that while the apprentice had some experience... he was not good enough to gain control over this group. It was something he would learn with time.

She raised an eyebrow waiting for an answer as to what was going on and why they were not respecting their teacher as he tried to teach them bookwork. She made her way further into the classroom and smirked visibly as the students immediately snapped around and paid attention. When he spoke she looked him over; clearly he was new to the area; or had lived under a rock if he did not recognize her. Mrs. actually. Mrs. Morticia Addams; Potions Mistress and deputy head of Durmstrang. And you are? Introductions seemed to be necessary after all.

It was almost eerie how silent the classroom had grown. While Dakota didn’t mind collaboration with peers when students were stuck on a particular part of a potion process or something, he wasn’t sure he liked this sort of silence. The woman corrected him. She wasn’t a Ms and she certainly hadn’t seemed fond of being referred to as such. “I’m sorry,” he said quickly.

Her introduction was regal, almost, and it went well with the way that she carried herself. Then it was his turn and Dakota wasn’t quite so sure how to introduce himself in such a way that would compare with what Mrs. Morticia Addams, potions mistress and deputy head of Durmstrang, had said. A nervous grin appeared on his lips and he glanced at the students sitting nice and neat in their chairs before turning his attention to the woman.

“I’m Dakota Teton,” he said. “Potions apprentice and Lakota Sioux.”

Potions Mistress
The eerie silence created by her presence with the students filled her with pride. She was far too proud of the fact that normal people could still be freaked out by her presence despite being in this school system for the last year and a half. Of course most of these students had been going to Durmstrang for the past year and they had friends who had her in class and they knew how little she tolerated behavior like that in the classroom.

If she seemed imperious to him it was only partially intentional. The fact he did not recognize her was a slight insult given the inter-school relationships. Not even the fact that the Addams were near instantly recognizable. He was kind and apologized at least and she gave him a smile. You're forgiven Mr. Tenton. Welcome to the United Kingdom. She observed the classroom again While she was curious at his origins this was not the time or place for it. Do you need assistance in keeping your class under control? It was not a condescending question but it seemed the children did not respect him and that would end in a major issue for them.

Dakota bowed his head to hide the frown when he was called ‘Mr. Teton’. That just didn’t sound right. Not to his ears. Mrs. Addams welcomed him to the United Kingdom and his dark brown eyes flickered up to meet hers for a moment. “Thanks,” he said quietly before looking out at the students who were now sitting still and correctly. “Some tips would be nice,” he said truthfully, taking a step back and leaning against his desk, having to mentally tell himself to not cross his arms over his chest. It was just how his people generally stood, but he also knew that it could make him come across as rude or like he wasn’t actually going to listen to the woman.

Morticia studied the apprentice as she walked through the room. It was clear he was slightly uncomfortable with her and perhaps she had started on the wrong foot with her harsh sounding correction, but she was very proud of her marriage and she loved her husband far too much to let the "Ms." slide. Ms. Addams was Grandmama. She could also partially blame his lack of recognition on the fact the students had him frazzled, but she had been in the school on and off regularly for the past two years, she was also well known in potions circles internationally.

You're welcome. She looked around again and moved to the front of the class room and gave a soft smile, It would be my pleasure to help you; one of your main issues is that while the Native American's can be rather laid back and easy at times when teaching, in a potions classroom you must be the opposite of that. A good firm tone of voice and a more... confident posture go a long way in gaining the students attention and making them pay attention to you. She turned to the students; Don't you all have a potion you should be brewing or reading about?

Dakota’s stance remained the same as Morticia spoke, making it a point to keep his eyes on the ground as she told him that native Americans were simply just too laid back and easy when it came to teaching. She was being helpful, he told himself, she was just trying to help - but for the love of all things good and pure, that felt like a slap to the face. If Rayne had been here, he doubted this encounter would be as quiet as it currently was. But Dakota was the new face. Dakota was the inexperienced one. He wanted to explain that it was a cultural thing and that those sorts of things weren’t as easily changed as she seemed to think…

“Page 296,” he told the class when the woman addressed them. “Mandrakes. We’ll discuss it in a little bit.” At least they were back on track but as the students rummaged through their textbooks to get to the right page, his posture didn’t change at all. His dark brown eyes settled back on the woman and he shifted a bit. “It might just be that they’re restless today,” he said, crossing his arms over his chest and surveying the room. “They’re not usually like that, not that bad at least.” Bookwork sucked. Dakota agreed. But they couldn’t start brewing anything without knowing what to look out for. He was capable of being responsible sometimes.

Potions Mistress
While her assessment seemed scathing; it was not meant to be. It was her own personal experience that lax teaching methods lead to chaos like this. Perhaps she should not have included his entire people, she understood that the Native Americans could be some of the fiercest warriors and held strong tradition; he was simply young. However, none of her words reached the children. They did not need to hear those things.

When he gave them something to read she nodded and looked to him; placing up a silencing ward so they wouldn't be heard despite the softness of her voice. "I spoke too harshly just now and for that I must apologize. Please do not be afraid to speak out and correct me if I have said something wrong I will not be insulted. Sometimes even the more experienced can learn from the young.

"I must admit however, that I have seen classrooms get out of hand because the teacher was not firm enough and not just potions. What potion are they supposed to be working on?

She apologized, saying that she had spoken rather harshly to him and again, Dakota’s posture didn’t change, even as he noticed that there was a bit of a barrier between himself and the woman and the rest of the class. She urged him to tell her when she misspoke about something but Dakota didn’t react. He knew from experience that trying to get someone from the outside to understand his culture was a waste of his time and energy. It was one of those ‘well you didn’t grow up that way, so it’s not easy for you to understand’ sort of things.

And another of the things that he grew up with was that the young did not teach the elders. It was not his place. She was older than him, even if he figured she wouldn’t be pleased if he brought that particular subject up. And so he remained quiet, giving a nod at least so that she would know that he had heard her. “Today they’re just reading about mandrakes, then we were going to discuss what they read, what they thought… things like that. Tomorrow…” He hadn’t actually answered her question yet. “Poison antidotes,” he said. “Basic ones, revisiting what I hope they learned last year. If you want to, you can lead the discussion. It would be beneficial to watch how it’s supposed to be done.”

For all it was worth, he was remaining civil. He couldn't exactly kick a potions mistress out of the classroom when it wasn't even his own classroom, to begin with.

Clearly Mr. Teton was a quiet man, that or she had insulted him to the point he no longer wished to speak with her. She would understand; she was the one who had messed up and insulted him. It was a social faux pax and she knew she would have to either work at fixing it, or accept that she had insulted him. There were times her presence and name insulted people so this was nothing new. The Niedermeyer's had not been particularly pleased with them either.

The fact that he was still being civil spoke volumes. It was likely being forced, but there were no indications of that in his voice. "Antidotes are a good way to review, their OWL's are coming up next year they need to be prepared. Fifth year and above are much more intense. I may suggest doing something a bit more advanced than the basic. Perhaps give them a potion with the basic antidote as a base, but it needs to be added to. I can give you a few suggestions if you'd like." Basic antidotes were learned in second year, fourth years should know that by now.

She smiled a bit and looked to the students, "Let's see what they learned hmm?" She put down the barrier and turned to the students, "Who can tell me something about what you just read and how it can be applied to poison relief?"

He knew that it needed to be added to, this was just a review of what they had learned in classes prior to this one. Pinching the bridge of his nose, Dakota gave a nod. “Thank you,” was all he said when the self-proclaimed mistress of potions offered to give a few suggestions on how to make the class more… what was she trying to accomplish at this point?

As the barrier was removed, Dakota pushed off the desk and went to the back of the classroom, sitting in one of the empty rows and leaning forward as if he were paying attention to the lecture as well. If anything, he was just trying to appear a good role model for the rest of the students in the classroom. He couldn’t shake the feeling though that he already had one person believing that he wasn’t fit to be in the classroom.
